DeKalb

DeKalb County was formed in 1822 and named after Baron Johann DeKalb, who was a general with the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. According to 2005 Census estimates, it is the third most populous county in Georgia as well as the third most populous in the 10-county Atlanta region. At 268 square miles, DeKalb ranks 113th (out of 159) in the state in area and sixth in the 10-county region. Given its relatively small size, DeKalb is the most densely-populated county in the state.
