Business & Aging Awards
The Business & Aging Awards recognize companies and organizations that develop public-private partnerships or programs to improve the quality of life for older adults and are mutually beneficial to the business and its mission, to the aging network and to older adults and their families. They are presented annually by the Metropolitan Partnership in Aging, a consortium of 10 county-based aging programs and the Atlanta Regional Commission.
The 2007 Business & Aging Partnership Award winners are Georgia Natural Gas in the Corporate/General Public category and Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett and Fugua Center for Late-Life Depression in the Age-Related Business category.
Georgia Natural Gas received the top honor for its efforts to help low-income older adults reduce their heating costs. In addition to donating $1.1 million to help Atlanta-area low-income seniors weatherize their homes and educate consumers statewide about energy conservation, the company partnered with numerous community organizations to detect inefficiencies in homes, thus attacking the root cause of high heating bills – inefficiency. This ultimately conserves energy and eliminates the need to raise thermostats.
For age-related businesses, top honors went to Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett and the Fuqua Center for Late-Life Depression.
Delmar Gardens, a senior retirement community in Gwinnett County, is a leading partner of Gwinnett County Senior Services. The company provides both corporate support to aging programs and opportunities for residents to remain engaged and active in their local communities on behalf of older adults.
The Fuqua Center for Life-Long Depression has partnered with the Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) Division of Aging, the Georgia Association of Homes & Services for the Aging (GAHSA) and others to provide depression training for care managers, statewide.
Nominations are judged based on the company’s commitment to creating mutually beneficial partnerships with the aging network that demonstrate commitment and ability to improve the quality of life or access to services for older adults, innovation and creativity, long-term, sustainable benefits to communities served and the ability to be replicated in other areas.
Previous winners have included WSB-TV, Channel 2, Georgia Power, Bob Adams Homes and Roy Wendt Homes, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Up the Creek Fish Camp and Grill, GeorgiaCares, Pfizer, Inc., CVS/pharmacy, Outback Steakhouse--Suwanee, Georgia Pharmacy Association, Delta Air Lines and the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead.
