Regional Snapshot Categories
Population
ARC produces annual population and housing estimates for the region, counties, cities, superdistricts (sub-county area) and neighborhoods (census tracts).
Employment
ARC produces annual employment estimates for the region, counties, superdistricts and neighborhoods (TAZ).
Forecasts
ARC develops 25-year population and employment forecasts for the 20-county region as a whole, as well as for individual counties, superdistricts and census tracts.
Housing
Housing values are one of the main drivers of the region's population growth. ARC collects housing data from many sources to help understand the region's dynamic housing market.
Land Development
ARC periodically updates its land use/land cover dataset called LandPro. The 2005 update showed that the 13-county Atlanta region is converting about 100 acres of agricultural and forested land per day into mostly low-density residential. Although the 2007 update showed this conversion rate slowing dramatically, seeing these trends, ARC encourages more efficient development through a program called the Livable Centers Initiative.
Aging
ARC expects the 55 and older population to more than double by the year 2030. This has broad ramifications for how the region plans for the future.
Economy/Income
ARC collects the latest information about general economic and income trends in the region. Income information usually lags behind a couple of years, but what they say about Atlanta's low cost-of-living is true.
Daytime Population
The U.S. Census Bureau released information pertaining to "daytime population," or those areas that grow during the day due to an influx of those coming in for work.
